Before BIOFUR® NXT, there was PLA.

And before bio-based textiles became part of the conversation, BIOFUR® set out to prove that pile textiles didn’t have to begin with petroleum.

We believed there had to be another way.

So we turned to PLA—a plant-derived biopolymer made from renewable natural sugars—and began reimagining what fur, fleece, sherpa and plush could be.

The result was our first generation of nature-to-nature textiles and the beginning of BIOFUR®.

Our first bio-based sherpa.

Soft, warm, resilient and made without conventional petroleum-based polyester, BIOSHERPA™ proved that a familiar performance textile could start with a radically different input.

Designed for fashion, outerwear, accessories, children’s products and lifestyle applications, it became the foundation for everything that followed.

We pushed PLA further with MOUTON BIO™, our bio-based interpretation of the extraordinary softness and dense, plush handfeel of shearling and mouton.

Created as an alternative to both animal shearling and conventional petroleum-based faux fur, MOUTON BIO™ demonstrated something important:

Bio-based could also be beautiful.
Bio-based could feel luxurious.
Bio-based could replace more than polyester.

From BIOSHERPA™ to MOUTON BIO™, plushes and fur-like constructions, our original PLA collection opened a new world of possibility for pile textiles.

It was our first step toward a bigger idea:
