BIOSherpa™ by Senbis
BIOSherpa™ is a 98% bio-based and 100% compostable solution to replace synthetic pile fabrics. BIOSherpa™ is made from 100% bio-based polymers and nothing else.
Developed with Senbis Polymer Innovations, this durable, soft, warm, washable and flame retardant textile is produced from the polymerization of extracted lactide from renewable bio-based non GMO feedstock. Our polymers are sourced from above ground carbon sources which have a minimal and vastly superior carbon footprint. This procedure contains no petrochemicals and is so pure that it is commonly used to manufacture bio-based materials for medical applications.
This BIOSherpa™ textile was created to be an environmentally positive alternative to PET faux fur, animal fur and petroleum based sherpa textiles currently available in the market.
In the current landscape, PET fibers are the best performing and least expensive material for fulling the needs of the textile industry, despite the fact that they contribute significantly to two major environmental challenges: microplastic pollution and global warming. Notably, 35% of marine microplastics can be traced back to PET textile sources. It's crucial to recognize that the production of 1 kg of PET fibers releases more than 2.2-5kg of CO2 into the environment.
The advancement of this BIOFUR® textile presents a promising solution to address both issues. Our adoption of bio-based and compostable polymers eliminates all concerns about long-term environmental impacts from microplastic residuals.
BIOSherpa™ is 100% compostable in a controlled industrial setting.
BIOSherpa™ has USDA Biopreferred Certification and TUV certification pending. BIOSherpa is now commercially available.
